Kemba Tamar oversees CSS’s Experience Corps program, where trained senior volunteers provide literacy tutoring for at-risk students in New York City public schools. Volunteers work throughout the school year, providing structured one-on-one tutoring in early grades.
WHY THIS IS WORK IMPORTANT TO ME:
Our intergenerational work in communities across the city is essential to our children's growth and progress in education. Our retired older adults have made a commitment to serve children who have low literacy skills. This reinvestment of time and energy to affect the lives of children makes this work so important to me.
